The Simple Woman's Daybook

The Simple Woman\'s Daybook

Today is my first time joining Peggy at The Simple Woman for her Simple Woman’s Daybook. I look forward to participating each Monday as often as possible!

FOR TODAY… July 28, 2008
Outside My Window… The sun is trying to break through today’s hazy morning clouds. Right now it’s cool and comfortable with possible showers and temps near 80 degrees in the forecast.
I am thinking… about how busy this week looks already! A week full of service not only to my own family but to others as well.
I am thankful for… My husband and my children. Our little hilltop homestead. The large gardens that are beginning to overflow with wonderful produce.
From the kitchen… A quick meal of summer squash and zucchini fried in butter.
I am wearing… a long blue dress with a heart/flower applique on the front bodice and heart and flower appliques all around the bottom.
I am creating… another knitted dishcloth. I hope to get enough made to put in my Etsy shop.
I am going… blueberry picking!!! It’s that time of year. My favorite time of year! We’re praying for lots of ripe berries that are easily picked. We’ll taking our whole family as well as my husband’s parents.
I am reading… Four Season Harvest by Eliot Coleman. It’s an excellent book with lots of great information! I look forward to implementing a lot of it into our own gardening methods and set up.
I am hoping… for lots of zucchini, summer squash, and cucumbers this week so we can get a good start on putting food by for the winter months.
I am hearing… my children excitedly heading to the van for a morning full of blueberry picking.
Around the house… I have so many things to accomplish before our home school starts on August 11th and before this baby arrives sometime in November. I won’t bore anyone to death with the long list.
One of my favorite things… is snuggling with my 21 month old when he first wakes up in the morning.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Go to a food shower for a friend, pick up co-op order for my mom, attend ladies Bible study, take my husband’s grandma shopping.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you…

Blackcap Jam

Canning season has begun here on our hilltop homestead. Scott and the boys have been busy picking blackcaps. So far we’ve got 9 pints of yummy blackcap jam put up for the winter! A taste of summer tucked away for a cold winter day.

I’m getting really excited about being able to harvest summer squash and zucchini, tomatoes and peppers, green beans and cucumbers! Before we know it we’ll have produce and fruit coming out our ears. I can just imagine all the yummy meals and many canning jars we will be able to fill! We’ll be spending most of every day in front of the hot stove. All that hard work will be worth it, though, when we can open up the cupboard door, pull out something tasty, and remember these warm summer days that will all too soon be gone.
